Welcome to my Blog

Week 1
(Sept 2, 2023)
Our first day at CVAP was pretty nerve-wracking for me. You see, I'm just a normal girl who never had any voice acting experience in the past so it was challenging to  create voices that I'm not even sure if I have. With that in mind, I was timid and shy to even speak, but CVAP made me realize lots of things.

Pochology 101: "Someone out there needs to hear your voice."

Looking back when I was a fresh graduate from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, it was my goal to be the voice of the unheard. I believe that some people who wanted to be heard just didn't have the avenue to speak so I was thinking, why don't I become their writer or storyteller instead, right? So it had always been my goal to be the one to write or speak for them in any way I could.

I wrote songs, poems, and short stories. I even did spoken poetry even though I have stage fright. Thanks to CVAP! They made me remember that passion I had in our first meeting. Thanks to Mentor Navi Garcia and his encouraging talk. It kept the fire burning in me.

Anyway, I would like to relate my previous statements to the Pochology that I mentioned previously. Well, it's true that some people do not have the opportunity to speak. The question now is What can we do about it?

During our talk with Mentor Navi, I realized that we can amplify the voices of the unheard through our own voice. Those people who have always kept quiet, they're waiting for someone whom they can relate to to speak for them. So if you take the courage to step up and speak, they'll be the first ones who will listen. So it's true that someone out there needs to hear your voice. Do not be afraid.

Pochology 101: "Don't follow your dreams. Don't chase them. Lead them."

I like this Pochology because how can you make your dreams a reality if you just passively follow it? Or chase it without making the right foundation first to secure it? Don't just blindly follow and chase your dreams. Be the driving force behind it and actively work towards it. Fighto!

Have the heart of a lion, vision of an eagle, and attack like a hornet.
Courage, Focus, and with CVAP's culture of sharing, giving, loving, and caring, I'm confident that we can make all the good things happen. I'm glad that here at CVAP, no one is left behind. <3

That's all for now. Again, I'm Lumanai. Your partner in crime.

Week 2
(Sept 9, 2023)
Hello again!
How are you doing?
Today, I’m going to share with y’all my Week 2 experience with CVAP.

Hi, I’m Lumanai. Your kaagapay, kaibigang tunay, and partner in crime.

Week 2 was a bit difficult because it’s more on the technical side. Apart from that, I had no sleep so taking all the information in was challenging, but gladly I was able to survive week 2 because of the engaging talk we had with our trainers. Anyway, learning about the basics of audio editing and the basic audio equipment was fun. There were some things that I only first knew about in that session so it was really helpful and educational. Thanks to Trainer Bryan Dave Perez for introducing the basics to us. Now, we know what equipment we should use and where or how to start.

The second half of the session was about doing voice overs and character voices. This is the part I’m having difficulties in doing because I have no idea how flexible my voice can be. I’m still working on this part, but with Papa Lem’s help in teaching us how to formulate character voices, I know I can do it eventually. I just have to practice harder so that my voice won’t sound the same when I do different voices. It’s not an easy process, but I’ll get to where I want to be someday. You too. You can do it!

We have to be aware of our own voice. By accepting it, we will be able to develop it.I totally agree with this. If we know how raspy, fast, slow, high or low our voices can go, we’ll know which parts we should improve and develop. Familiarity is the key. So let’s keep exploring our voices.

Before I end my blog, I would like to share two Pochologies with you all that I learned in last week’s session.

Pochology 101: Do something today that your future self will thank you for.

It’s never too late to do something for yourself. If you’re doubting yourself right now, please bear in mind that you won’t know what you’re capable of unless you try. If you fail today, give yourself a chance and try again tomorrow.

If you look closely, it’s just us who make the deadline. Sometimes we worry too much that we’re getting left behind. However, please remember that progress isn’t linear. Kung ‘di mo talaga kaya today, pahinga lang. Huwag masyadong magpaka-pressure. Kapag kaya mo na, try mo ulit. Trust me. Someday you’ll thank yourself for trying.

Pochology 101: Our voice is not just a gift, it is a choice.

Our voice is a gift given to us, and it's up to us how we will use it. There are many ways to use it pero sana piliin nating gamitin sa tama.

Thank you guys for visiting my blog!
Your presence brings a smile to my face, and I hope I have the same effect on you.

Again, I’m Lumanai. Your kaagapay, kaibigang tunay, and partner in crime.
Bye bye!
Week 3
(Sept 16, 2023)
Hello again! Welcome to my blog!

Our week 3 learning was one of the things I was looking forward to learning. You see, I've always had enlarged tonsils ever since I was a baby so it gets strained a lot when I use my voice too much. But with trainer Janeane's help, we learned the proper ways on how we can take care of our voices. It gave me an idea of what food I must not eat, and the things I should do to alleviate my discomfort whenever I have allergies para 'di magtunog ngongo kapag nagsasalita. It is also important to note the techniques that she taught us like recording ourselves while reading sample scripts and tongue twisters.  There are many ways to improve, but these are really enjoyable for me.

"Don't be like the character. Be the character."

This left an impression kasi tama nga naman. It's more genuine if you think that you are the character, diba? Kapag ikinukulong mo yung sarili mo sa gawa ng iba, medyo nalilimitahan ka. So be the character. Let it all out. ❤️

Aside from all these things, we were visited by two guest speakers during the session. Miss Donna Vee and Miss Champagne shared with us some parts of their journey as voice artists. It was inspirational and educational 'cause we get to learn a lot from the experiences they've had when they were still beginners and now that they are professionals.

From the stories shared with us by our mentors, guest speakers and trainers since Week 1, I've realized that there are hardships along the way. However, we still get to enjoy them because of the lessons we learn, so it's all worth it.

Kaya patuloy pa rin. Practice. Practice. Practice. Magpapahinga pero hindi titigil.

That's all for my blog!

See you!
Week 4
(Sept 23, 2023)
Hello guys!
This is Lumanai.
Your kaagapay, kaibigang tunay, and partner in crime.

So for today, I will be sharing the things I've learned in our week 4 session.

Week 4 was superb! I'm glad that I joined because I got to learn so many things. It was quite challenging because we talked about legal stuff, contracts, and common scams that voice artists face in the industry. Regarding the scams, I wasn't really aware of those things before, but thanks to Trainer Lyn for including those in our discussion. Now, I know what to do and what to avoid. Being aware empowers us to make decisions wisely.

Even though some parts were too much for my brain to handle, they are are very important to discuss especially to us who are still beginners. It equips us with enough knowledge to help us navigate through the realities of voice artistry. It also helps us avoid the type of bad people who might take advantage of us in the future. I learned a lot and I am willing to learn more. But sadly, that was our last session.

I will surely miss our mentors, trainers, voicemates, and everyone. I will miss waking up every Saturday morning to prepare and meet for our class.

If there's another chance to join another workshop in CVAP, I will grab the opportunity. Because learning with the CVAP family is the best experience I've ever had.

Until next time~
Again, this is Lumanai.
